Evan Richard Holman Smith, 53, of  Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at his home.

He was born Friday, March 22, 1963 in Baltimore, MD, to Dr. Richard E. Smith and Barbara H. Burkhardt. He was the stepson of Janice D. Smith of Aledo, Texas.
Evan was 1981 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He was a 1985 graduate of the University of Maryland with a B.S. in aeronautical engineering.
Flying was Evan's passion and he earned his pilot's license before he got his driver's license. He worked for more than 20 years as a pilot for several commuter airlines including Comair a subsidiary of Delta, MaxJet, and Trans States Airlines where he was a pilot and instructor. Evan also owned and operated Hagerstown Aviation Academy from 2008-2009, as well as flying cargo all over the world for Sky Lease before ending up as a Flight Standards Aviation Safety Inspector with the Federal Aviation Administration.
He is survived by his wife Lori M. Smith; eight children, Philip A. Smith, Derek J. Beard, Danielle R. Smith, Josalyn A. Smith, Kelsey N. Smith, Alyssa C. Smith, Clayton L. Smith, and Anna E. Smith; two sisters, Stacy F. Wingert and Sheridan J. Rockwell; brother John C. Smith, and stepbrother Robert M. Russell, Jr. 
Evan lived his life loving and serving the Lord by loving and serving others. He is loved and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017, at 1:30 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Frank H. Duncan officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
