 Mr. Richard "Dick" Edwin Montgomery of Hagerstown, MD, died on February 2, 2017, at home. He was the husband of 58 years to Darlene Virginia (Mason) Montgomery.

 
Born on January 20, 1939 in Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Daniel E. and Grace W. Montgomery. He was preceded in death by sister, Kleora Hobson and his beloved Chihuahua, Squirt.
 
He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1956, and served in the United States Navy. He was employed by Mack Truck for 40 years, most of which was in various management positions, and retired on January 1, 2000. He loved animals and spent three years working part-time at the Washington County Humane Society after retirement.
 
He was a member of the Elks 378, The Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and the Amvets Post 10.
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard E. Jr. and wife Dawn of Valparaiso, IN; son, Daniel W. and wife Beverley of Greencastle, PA; son, Michael A. and wife, Amy of Harrisburg, PA; three grandchildren, Amanda Montgomery of Crown Point, IN; Jeremy Montgomery of Valparaiso, IN; and Kaitlin Montgomery of Greencastle, PA; brother, Harry and his wife Karen of Brookville, MD; sister, Lily Hamett and husband Thomas of Hagerstown, MD; sister, Daisy Wolfensberger and husband Charles of Hagerstown, MD; and sister, Rose Malkiewitz and husband Walter of Hagerstown, MD. He will also be missed by his remaining dogs, Sweetie, Pogo and Rudy.
 
Graveside services will be held, Monday,  February 6, 2017 at 11:30 am, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Gregory Shook officiating.
 
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
